Faculty – Guitar & Bass

JOHN BUTLER
Classical, Rock & Pop Guitar

B.M. (magna cum laude), guitar performance, Howard University. 

Faculty member of Charles County Community College and Prince Georges Community College. Performed at the Kennedy Center, Austrian Embassy and Smithsonian Institute. Orchestra guitarist for musicals such as “Annie” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

MIKE KLIGERMAN
Folk Guitar, Ukulele

B.A., Fine Arts and Music, (Renaissance Music / Javanese Gamelan / Sculpture / Painting) Goddard College, Instituto de Bellas Artes, Mexico DF. 

Has taught folk guitar at Glen Echo Park for over 30 years. Performer/ teacher in Washington, DC Area. Musical perspective informed by work as active visual artist. Instructor of sculpture, Trinity College. Performs on violin, viola, bass, and accordion. Former member of Nairobi (Kenya) Opera Orchestra, faculty, Kenya Conservatoire of Music. Principal viola, Montgomery Philharmonic. Member, Hancock Waltz Kings and Peasant Ridge Gospel Quartet & Mike.

DAVE MANLEY
Jazz, Pop, Rock, Classical, Country & Fingerstyle Guitar

Professional musician

Toured and recorded with Herbie Hancock, Jill Scott, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Music Soul Child, Jeff Bradshaw, Carrol Riddick, Raheem Devahgn, Chiwoniso Maraire, Kindred The Family Soul, Dave Chappelle. Performed in Dave Chappelle’s “Block Party” movie, featured in Jill Scott’s “Live in Paris” DVD. Performed on “Ellen” “The View”, “The Tonight Schow” “Jimmy Kimmel” “The Tavis Smiley Show”, “The Today Show”. Faculty (guitar, music theory, jazz improvisation, and jazz ensemble) at Eastern University, PA.

STEVE NOVOSEL
Acoustic & Electric Bass

Professional musician

Performed and recorded with Andrew White, Roland Kirk, Stanley Cowell, David “Fathead” Newman and Eddie Harris. Performed with other jazz greats including Cedar Walton, McCoy Tyner, Hank Jones, Milt Jackson, Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Sonny Rollins, Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis, Harry “Sweets” Edison, James Moody, Archie Shepp and Blue Mitchell. Accompanied many singers including Billy Eckstine, Joe Williams, Donny Hathaway, Anita O’Day, Roberta Flack, Betty Carter. Performed on Verve recording releases of singer Shirley Horn. Tours with Red Norvo, Tal Farlow, Al Grey and David “Fathead” Newman. Over 60 recordings. Faculty, University of the District of Columbia.
