Internationally acclaimed violinist James Buswell,renowned for his recordings of the complete sonatas and partitas for solo violin by J.S. Bach and for his programming of music “off the beaten path,” has performed as a solo violinist with virtually all of the major orchestras in North America, and throughout Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia, performing over one hundred solo works for violin and orchestra. Early in his career he was an artist-member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York. Active as a concerto soloist, chamber musician, recitalist, conductor and educator, James Buswell is one of the most versatile musicians performing today. More+ He brings this artistry to Washington Conservatory in a series of events as part of a special weekend residency.

On Friday, November 9 at 8:00 pm, he will perform a special concert of works for violin with cellist Tobias Werner and pianist Read Gainsford for the public at Westmoreland Congregational UCC with admission by donation.

On Saturday, November 10 at 2:00 pm, Buswell will present a free 45-minute talk "The Art of Chamber Music with Strings and Piano" at Washington Conservatory at Glen Echo Park, 7300 MacArthur Blvd, Glen Echo, Md. Buswell is well-known as an engaging speaker and thoughtful knowledgeable musician.

A free adult Chamber Music Reading Session with James Buswell follows from 3pm - 5pm. James Buswell with play the Brahms Sextets with participants. All avid advanced teen and intermediate and advanced adult chamber musicians are welcome! You must bring your own music. To participate in the Reading Session, RSVP to info@washingtonconservatory.org, Subject: Buswell Play-in 2018, with your name, instrument, level of playing (beginner, intermediate, advanced), Will you arrive by 3 pm, comments, and email.


Audience members are invited to a post-concert Wine & Words in the church social hall – a fun and informal question and answer session with the artist, with complimentary beverages.

The Washington Conservatory is a nationally accredited community music school for students of all ages. The Conservatory presents a professional monthly concert series October through May at Westmoreland Church in Bethesda and other public concerts and events throughout the year at Glen Echo Park. The Conservatory welcomes both seasoned and novice classical concert-goers and encourages families to attend our concerts with their children. Back balcony seating at the Westmoreland Circle location is suggested for families with small children as a courtesy to other audience members and to allow for easy exit. Conservatory Concerts are funded by donations and presented free of charge to allow those of all ages and economic means to enjoy outstanding live classical music in the community. Parking is on-street on Massachusetts and Western Avenues and in the parking lot of Westmoreland Congregational UCC church. As a courtesy, please refrain from parking in the neighborhood and blocking the driveways of our neighbors.
